Hoverfly Genera - Scaeva
Acrostic hoverfly postcard - Sceava - distinctive from markings on the abdomen which resemble hockey sticks.
Welcome to postcards about hoverflies.
Hopefully you have seen some of my previous postcards, if you haven’t then after reading this one may I suggest clicking on the ones listed at the bottom of this article.
The aim of these postcards is to celebrate hoverflies one genus at a time.
I use the first letter of the genus name to form a sentence that captures distinctive features of an incredible syrphid group, paired with my artwork.
Today’s postcard features Scaeva - Often referred to has hockey sticks.
I hope you like this postcard and feel confident enough to head-out to spot some hockey stick hoverflies.

These acrostic postcards are a great idea, Mark. I bet you enjoyed creating them? I'll be checking out the others. x
Thanks, Mark. I think this is one of the hoverflies you identified for me a few weeks back. Such pretty white barring on its back.
I learnt a new work today: Anthropophılic. Awesome word.
